Lab receives advanced ERC Grant for work on vesicular glutamate transporters

The European Research Council ERC has decided to fund our initiative in form of an advanced research grant to study the role of vesicular glutamate transporters (VGLUT) in modulating synaptic function. Our research will focus on novel roles of VGLUTs in regulating the efficiency of vesicle release, synaptic strength and short-term plasticity. All these factors determine how the most important synapse type will signal between neurons. We hope that we uncover important new insights in the function of the healthy brain, as well as in mechanisms underlying neurological and psychiatric disorders. Funding will by supported for 5 years with a total sum of nearly 2.5 Million Euro starting in 2010.

Mingshan Xue received prestigious award at recent Neuroscience meeting!

Oct. 2009. Mingshan and Christian at the Peter Gruber award in Chicago
Mingshan Xue, who recently completed his dissertation research in our lab  was honored at the 2009 SFN meeting for his great work on Complexin function by receiving the highly competitive Peter and Patricia Gruber International Research Award in Neuroscience

Congratulations to you, Mingshan!
Mingshan is now in the lab of Massimo Scanziani at UCSD for his postdoc.
