In April, the Rosenmund lab participated in Girls Day. We welcomed about 20 10th graders interested in neurosciences. Under the topic “communication between nerve cells - how nerve cells talk”, we looked at cultured nerve cells using light and fluorescence microscopes. To better recognize structures, the contacts between the nerve cells (called synapses) as well as the dendrites were labeled with fluorescent markers. We also looked at the communication between nerve cells by amplifying the signal (electrical current) that occurs when nerve cells talk to each other.
